Cappex was reviewed by Inside Higher Ed while we were at the industry conference (NACAC). The show was great, it was a big launch for us, we signed up many counselors and colleges there.

I like the TECH Cocktail parties a lot. They do a nice job uncovering unique business models and cool companies. Chicago has a quite a bit of grass-roots start-up activity. Mostly because it’s difficult to get funding so there are a lot of bootstrappers.
We went there looking for some online marketing help in June of 2007.
The University of Chicago did this article about entreprenurs. I’m pretty proud of it, I got full-page coverage and some nice pictures. Some of the pictures pop up on other things from time to time.

This announcement was written up after I won the New Venture Challenge in 2003. One of the writers, Noel Rozny, later came to work for Vicarious Communications developing content and newsletters.
Vicarious was covered in this issue of the New Venture News from the University of Chicago in the Spring of 2004. There is a picture of me and the rest of the team celebrating our first revenue check!

The University of Chicago isn’t known for marketing, although they are picking up a lot of steam in the area. I won the 2003 New Venture Challenge with a direct marketing idea.
The company, Vicarious Communication, got a lot of attention. It put some wind behind the sails and kept the project moving forward.
